Catholicity is a strong component of Archbishop O'Hara High
School, the largest of four diocesan high schools in the Kansas City-St. Joseph
Diocese.
Themes are created for each year. These themes are
Lasallian-influenced, and they focus on peace and justice and permeate the
liturgies, daily prayers and actions of the community.
Students have a myriad of opportunities to live out
their faith by planning and participating in liturgies, attending retreats and
volunteering for service opportunities through Lasallian Youth, Student Council
and National Honor Society. Many students go beyond the yearly requirements for
service and are recognized in the larger community for their amazing efforts.
Members of Lasallian Youth strive to live out the
ideals of St. John Baptist de La Salle – Faith, Service and Community. they
explore their faith as young adult Christians through service and reflection.
They serve the needs of their community by volunteering to work in soup
kitchens, parishes, tutoring and recreation programs, transitional housing,
residences for the elderly, and other programs that assist those who would
otherwise be neglected.
Food and clothing drives as well as collections for the missions give students a tangible way to help those in need. Most importantly,
students take wit h them when they graduate from Archbishop O'Hara, the notion
that service is a part of life. Giving selflessly to others is to follow in the
footsteps of Jesus.
